This is one of those high-protein weeknight meals I reach for when I want something that tastes like takeaway without waiting an hour for delivery. The whole dish comes together in a single pan in about 20 minutes, and the flavor you get from searing extra-lean beef alongside fresh Thai basil is ridiculous.

My favorite move here is serving it over a light jasmine rice. It catches all that savory, sweet, and garlic-heavy sauce at the bottom of the bowl.

Ingredients

Beef & Produce

  • 1 lb extra-lean ground beef
  • 2 bell peppers, medium diced
  • 1 white onion, medium diced
  • ½ oz fresh Thai basil leaves
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt

Sauce

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 tsp fish sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

For Serving

  • Cooked jasmine rice

Instructions

  1. Prep Veggies: Medium dice the bell peppers and white onion.
  2. Sauté Veggies: Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the peppers and onion with a pinch of salt. Cook 5–6 minutes until tender-crisp and browned in spots. Transfer to a bowl.
  3. Brown Beef: Add 1 lb extra lean ground beef to the same pan. Cook 2–3 minutes until browned on one side, then break apart and finish cooking.
  4. Add Sauce: Add the oyster sauce, honey, water, fish sauce, and minced garlic to the beef and stir to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes
  5. Combine: Add the basil and veggies back to the pan, mix, and cook for about 60 seconds.
  6. Serve: Serve over steamed jasmine rice with lime wedges, cilantro, and the peanut garnish.
